Brisbane has all the trappings of a modern 21st-century city, with skyscrapers soaring above the sandstone façades of Victoriana, yet with parks aplenty between the high-rises, which helps to give the entire city a genteel, almost sedate atmosphere.

Days can be spent ambling amongst the markets, museums, malls, galleries and gardens of the centre, breaking the day with a trip to the city’s very own beach, on the banks of the river.
